Turn sales goals into friendly competition and drive better performance from day one with Contests.
What are Contests?
Salespath Contests makes it easy to motivate your team and hit your sales goals through friendly, performance-driven competition. Site managers can launch a contest based on conversion rate or coverage rate, tracking how well salespeople are closing or how often they’re pitching. Run it by location or by individual, set the prize, and let the competition begin.
Salespath handles the tracking, and progress updates, so all you have to do is watch your team compete. Whether you're onboarding a new team or energizing your top performers, contests are a simple, built-in way to boost engagement, encourage adoption, and drive measurable performance.
How to create a Contest
| Available to: Tenant Admins, Site Managers. |
- From the navigation menu, click Settings > Contests.
- Click Create contest.
- Fill out the required fields:
- Name - A name for this contest (e.g. "March Madness Contest")
- Date - The start and end dates for this contest.
- Performance Indicator - KPI that you are basing the contest results on. Set to either Conversion Rate or Coverage.
- Participant Type - Choose Location to make this a Location vs. Location contest, or Salesperson to make this a Salesperson vs. Salesperson contest.
- Finalization Buffer - Time after contest ends to wait before finalizing the results. This can be set to either None, 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours. We recommend setting this to at least 30 minutes so as to ensure that Salespath has received all applicable transactions from the PoS system.
- Require Manual Reward Approval - If enabled, XP, Salespath Points, and Marketplace Items will not be automatically given out to Salespeople. Admins will have to navigate back to the contest settings page to approve the rewards.
- Participating Locations - The locations that are participating in a contest. For a salesperson contest, this will restrict the eligible salespeople to those who have had at least one attributed transaction at one of the participating locations.
- In the Rewards section, choose which reward the winners of the contest will receive. Rewards are configurable so that the winner can receive a Marketplace reward, points, XP, or any combination of the three.
- Select a Marketplace reward for each place (Gold, Silver, Bronze).
- Enter the number of Points / XP will be earned for this reward, if any. Leave blank if none.
- Click Save and the contest will begin on the chosen start date.
Salesperson view
Once the contest has been initiated, the Salesperson will see a banner on their Salesperson dashboard explaining the status of the competition, the available rewards, and a leaderboard. Once the competition is finalized, they will receive an announcement showing a podium of all the winners.
How winners are determined
For salesperson based contests, the top three sales people with the highest performance category numbers (conversion or coverage) will receive a reward.
For location based contests, all salespeople at the winning location that meet the required car count criteria will receive a reward.
Manual reward approval
| Available to: Tenant Admins, Site Managers. |
If a contest has been configured with the Require Manual Reward Approval setting, Site Managers or Tenant Admins must approve the rewards before the contest winners are announced and rewards are granted.
To approve contest rewards (after contest end date/time):
- From the navigation menu, click Settings > Contests.
- Make sure Include Completed Contests is checked.
- Look for any contests with the Needs Reward Approval status. Click View.
- You will see a Rewards Pending Approval banner. Click into the Rewards tab.
- There you can see each reward place, and which salespeople will get rewards. Verify they are correct, then click Approve Rewards. This will send rewards to each salesperson and announce the winners on the dashboard.
FAQ
Q: Why I can't edit this contest?
A: Contests cannot be edited once they start.
Q: What time of day do the contests start/end?
A: Contests start/end at midnight PST of the selected days.
Q: What do the Participant Types mean?
A: Location - all locations at the tenant will be included in the contest. Salesperson - all salespeople will be included in the contest.
Q: What is a Finalization Buffer?
A: A period of time after the contest ends during which the results are not yet finalized. This is to allow ample time to retrieve all POS data, and allow admins to input transaction overrides.
Q: What does Required Car Count do?
A: Any location below this car count will not be eligible for the contest. Any salespeople who do not meet this car count will not be eligible for contest rewards. E.g. A salesperson's location wins the contest but the salesperson did not meet the minimum car count, so they do not receive the reward.
Q: How do rewards work for Location contests?
A: All salespeople who met the minimum car count at that location receive the reward.
Q: What information is available in the admin view for Contests?
A: Under Settings > Contests > choose contest and click View, Tenant Admins and Site Managers can click into any contest and three tabs will be available:
- Leaderboard - includes overview of the contest details, reward, and when it starts/ends.
- Rewards - who won and the reward they received.
- Criteria - criteria setup for the contest (start/end date, reward approval, required car count, etc.)
Q: How is Coverage Score calculated for a contest?
A: Coverage Score is the percentage of cars that had a salesperson physically present in the lane during the transaction. Only retail car wash transactions count — member visits, free wash voucher redemptions, house accounts, and fleet accounts are excluded. Former member re-activations are also not counted as new sales opportunities.
Q: When should I use Coverage vs. Conversion Rate as my Performance Indicator?
A: Use Coverage when your goal is ensuring salespeople are consistently engaging every customer in the lane. Use Conversion Rate when your goal is measuring how effectively those interactions turn into membership sales.
